TNCC Courses |
"Since 1986, TNCC has
served as the standard of practice for providing trauma nursing
care to patients who have sustained injuries. Injuries induced
by all mechanisms, including motor vehicle crashes, suicides,
homicides and poisonings continue to vacillate between being the
third or fourth leading cause of death with 2.6 million people
requiring hospitalization and almost 37 million seeking
emergency department care."
-TNCC Provider Manual 5th Ed., 2000
Purpose
The purpose of the TNCC is to present core-level knowledge and
psychomotor skills associated with implementing the trauma
nursing process. The psychomotor skill stations facilitate
initial integration of psychomotor abilities in a setting that
simulates trauma patient situations. It is the intent of the
TNCC to enhance the nurse’s ability to assess, rapidly and
accurately, the patient’s responses to the trauma event.
Course Description
The TNCC is a course designed to provide the learner with
cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills. The trauma nursing
process is used to standardize the approach to trauma care.
Course Participants
The TNCC may be officially attended only by Registered Nurses
(RNs). Auditing the course is permitted.

facility, please contact Roger Casey, RN at

CATN-II Courses |
|
Purpose
CATN-II is an effort to expand trauma nursing knowledge beyond
the material presented in the TNCC. It is intended to meet the
diverse needs of trauma nurses practicing in a variety of
settings and at various points along the trauma care continuum.
Course Description
The CATN-II is an innovative continuing education program that
utilizes a case study approach and critical decision-making
skills. This 16-hour course combines didactic content with
interactive discussions, presented in a flexible format.
Upon course completion the participant
should be able to:
- Analyze psychophysiologic concepts as
they relate to human responses to injury
- Integrate the psychophysiologic concepts
through case studies.
- Synthesize the principles of trauma
system development, ethical dilemmas, and the application of
science to nursing practice with the physiological concepts
to assure a comprehensive approach to the injured patient.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of advanced
trauma nursing on patient outcomes.
